History of Phoenix Renovation & Restoration, Inc.

After working in corporate America at Kraft Foods for several years, one of the owners, Pat Murphy, made a switch and began working for a local office of a franchise restoration company.  After a couple of years, Mark Heinze joined him at that company, and together they worked about 7 years learning all they could about the business of property restoration and repair.

Following a failed succession strategy that they had conceived, they decided to break away and begin their own restoration and renovation company.

The legend of the Phoenix:  As old as recorded time itself, the legend was shared by the mythologies of the ancient Greeks, Egyptians and others. The bird symbolized regeneration and resurrection. At the end of a century long life, the creature built a nest, settled into it and set the wood aflame. After the phoenix was consumed by fire, a bird rose from the ashes, renewed.

Thus, the birth of Phoenix Renovation and Restoration, Inc. in 1999.

This legend was the source of inspiration for Pat and Mark, dedicating themselves and their company to bringing their customer’s property back to life following damage from fires, vandalism, vehicles, water, and weather.

Today, Phoenix performs direct repair services for many insurance companies, participating on several ‘preferred contractor’ programs.  Phoenix also performs extremely well in the remodel and renovation area, including basement finishing, room additions, kitchen and bathroom remodels, and deck construction.

In both insurance repair, and in remodel / renovation jobs, Phoenix staff members listen carefully to their customers, and ensure that the ‘vision’ of the property owner is included in all planning. 

“We take the vision of the homeowner and carefully plan these concepts with our skilled and talented production team, that includes Certified Remodelers and Certified Lead Carpenters,” explains Pat.   “As a result, we end up with very satisfied customers, and we’ve added value to the house, which is important for resale.”

Today, the company employs 20 full-time and 5 part-time people and was recognized by Kansas City Small Business Monthly in 2004 as a “Top 25 Small Business Under 25”.  In addition, Phoenix, whose staff is active in the local chapter of the National Association of the Remodelers Industry (NARI), is a 2006 NARI Remy Award winner in multiple categories, as well as obtaining the Qualified Remodeler Top 500 Award for 2008

Murphy and Heinze attribute their company’s success to not only the expertise they offer, but the level of customer service.   “Our staff consists of certified professionals who are exceptional, especially when it comes to communicating with customers about their goals,” says Heinze.  “For us, customer satisfaction has been and will continue to be the most important aspect of this industry.”

In combination, Phoenix’s owners, plus the project managers and production staff members, provide over 150 years of construction, homebuilding, remodel, and repair experience.  In addition, some staff members contribute more than an additional 50 years of project management experience outside of the construction industry.

Phoenix currently works frequently with approximately 30 insurance companies, and is continually being added to more company’s direct repair programs, and many ‘preferred’ contractor programs.  Please see the web page under References for details concerning our current insurance company clients.  Phoenix is also listed on several city’s Authorized Contractor lists, which also can be viewed on the references page.

Three Phoenix employees added the ‘NARI Certified Remodeler’ certification to their resume this year, bringing the company total to 5 ‘Certified Remodelers’, more than any other insurance restoration company in the Kansas City Metro area.

Phoenix recently celebrated the anniversary of its tenth year in business by opening a new office in Sunrise Beach, Mo., service the 4-county area surrounding the Lake of the Ozarks, continuing their history of providing premier customer service.
